The Mind & Body of Ashtanga Yoga
Sunday 15th May 2022
10am - 4.30pm

The Mind & Body of Ashtanga Yoga a one day workshop in 3 parts with Matt Ryan.

Ashtanga Yoga is a mind & body yoga practice that is evenly split – 50 % mind, 50 % body. In this 1 day workshop Matt will be exploring both sides of the Ashtanga mind body coin with sessions on each as individuals and finishing the day combining both with a full primary led class.

Discovering the Inner World of Ashtanga 10 am – 11.30 am

Yoga and Meditation are synonyms   – David Williams

It’s so easy to get lost in the physical aesthetic of Ashtanga that the more subtle internal practice gets lost in the noise. Using the practices of Ashtanga and Zazen (Zen meditation) Matt will be teaching students how to allow both practices to ‘inform’ each other to create a much deeper more focused on the mat experience. The mind component of Ashtanga Yoga is integral to the whole foundation of the practice and to the complete understanding of the external physical form.

10 % further for Mind and Body 12pm – 1.30 pm

Using the Ashtanga Yoga Primary series as a base, Matt will be talking through each posture with tips and advice on how by making simple mind and body adjustments students can find deeper levels of flexibility and concentration. Also by employing the methods taught in this session students can learn how to more mindful of their practice and this in turn will help to prevent injury through learning how not to force or over stretch the body in postures. This is a perfect workshop for both new comers and seasoned pros to Ashtanga.

Space & Flow Yoga
Saturday 21st May 2022

S&F is a movement-based Yoga practice promoting a healthy spine and joints, muscular strength and body-mind awareness.

The physical practice is based on spinal and joint integrity, muscular strength and the understanding of the role of the nervous system in growth, physical potential and ultimately health.

Greatly inspired by schools of somatic education such as Feldenkrais, the Space & Flow method combines a multi-faceted approach that draws from various fields of practice like martial arts and dance, and from the world of strength & conditioning and that of body therapy.

The growth and ongoing development of S&F is marked by a diversity of sources and this mobility is another important aspect of its essence.

Space & Flow benefits from a close relationship to Sufism, and to Tantra and Zen Buddhism.

Sequencing : Monsoon

In this  workshop we will be working with the MONSOON sequence the various mechanics and planes of motions involved, and how to possibly go about creating further sequences using the same principles Monsoon was created with.

We will will start the practice with the S&F Dynamic Warm Up and proceed to discuss the art of sequencing Vinyasa with the Monsoon sequence as a reference point. Throughout the practice we will discuss the physiology, biomechanics, and limitations as well as how to allow pauses (asanas) to appear in

This workshop is about the primary principle of the Space & Flow Yoga method:
The first quality of an asana is to be found within the travel to it!

Using the “7/60’s” principle, namely 7 postures each held for 60 seconds (or more), and pay attention to HOW we move into, stay within, and then move out of postural relationships, which will be referred to as “pauses”. Expect more of a mellow and yet still somehow demanding practice where your brain and body will be invited to travel back and forth between tension and release (contract / let go) whilst you do your best to keep your breath soft. Some gentle partner work will also be offered as a way into deeper stretches and human connection.

between movements.
